Turmeric Latte

Turmeric, sometimes called Indian saffron or the golden spice, is a tall plant growing in Asia and Central America. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and has powerful biological properties.

There’s nothing new about this recipe except that it’s homemade and delicious. If you’ve relied on bought turmeric lattes and are tired of the cost, you may like this recipe.

Health benefits:

·       Turmeric has been getting attention recently because of its antioxidant abilities. The antioxidant effect of turmeric appears to be so powerful that it may stop your liver from being damaged by toxins.

·       Turmeric can also play an important role in digesting that food. Because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric can contribute to healthy digestion.

·       Many people, including doctors, cite their own anecdotal experience with turmeric as a pain reliever. The spice is reputed to relieve arthritis pain as well.

 

TURMERIC LATTE

Makes 5 cups

 

4 cups (1 L) plant milk

1 cup (250 ml.) filtered water

1 cm knob turmeric, sliced

1 cm knob ginger, sliced

1 cinnamon stick

1 whole cardamom pod, cracked

maple syrup or honey, to taste

Place ingredients in a saucepan and whisk constantly over a gentle heat until the milk simmers or heat in a milk frother. Strain through a double layer of muslin into a jug and serve warm in mugs with a little sweetener. To make an iced turmeric latte, pour the turmeric latte over ice cubes in a glass. May be stored in a glass bottle for 3 days in the fridge.
